“Synthetic carbohydrate receptors: Tools for exploring and exploiting
the most complex recognition in biology in viral diseases”
Serdecznie zapraszam Pracowników, Doktorantów i Studentów Wydziału Chemii, oraz inne zainteresowane osoby.
Prof. dr hab. Andrzej Kudelski
ABSTRACT: Viruses use glycans as an attachment factor during a viral docking to the host cell, which precedes viral infection and, ultimately, replication. Although disrupting glycan-receptor interactions could mitigate the viral threat, glycans are considered “undruggable targets”, meaning there is no widely adopted therapeutic strategies which exploit them as feasible targets. In this contribution, I will discuss the development of synthetic carbohydrate receptors (SCRs), small molecules and potent antivirals that are able to recognize selectively complex glycans.
