Publication in Nature Materials by the Research Group of the Electron Microscopy and Spectroscopy Laboratory at CNBCh UW
The publication “MXenes with Ordered Triatomic-Layer Borate Polyanion Terminations” is the result of an intensive international collaboration within the M-ERA.NET project, dedicated to the synthesis and characterization of 2D materials. This new material is intended for rapid storage of large amounts of electrical energy and was developed and tested through the cooperation of three research groups: the Dresden University of Technology, the CEITEC Center in Brno, and the CNBCh University of Warsaw.
During the three-year joint project, a method was developed for synthesizing advanced MXenes, which efficiently store electrical energy, featuring an ordered 2-dimensional structure separated by borates. These new materials exhibit significantly better charge transport and storage properties compared to existing materials.
Three scientists from our side participated in the research on this unique material: Kamil Sobczak, Mikołaj Donten, and Ehrenfried Zschech, who was invited to collaborate by CNBCh UW. The structural studies and high-resolution compositional analyses conducted in Warsaw, which enabled the positioning of individual atoms within the layers, allowed for the optimization of synthesis and contributed to explaining the charge storage capabilities of the produced MXenes.
The substances produced in collaboration with Dresden and Brno will be used in the construction of efficient supercapacitors. The essence and significance of the obtained results are confirmed by the publication in the prestigious journal – Nature Materials.
